Kylie Martin
STATS:
Name: The Hair Goddess
Real name: Kylie Martin
E-mail address: GothicHairGoddess@hotmail.com, Kitty@gothic.net, Veiledstar17@yahoo.com
Web page: My page is in the design stage, I'll be a huge archival hair resource for Goths and Freaks, covering everything from how to cut your own
bangs (fringe) into a V to how to dye your own hair and strip freaky colours to pictures and instructions on how to re-create period hairstyles. Right
now I am working for http://www.MorbidOutlook.com and http://www.Gothic.net
Other newsgroups you frequent: mostly lurk: I was on the Goth Fashion e-groups list and some writing lists and herbal lists, now I am only here as
I pack up my life and sell it.
Length of time on the 'net: 4 years
Length of time as a net.goth: 4 years
Place of residence: New York City, soon to be Aussie Land!
APPEARANCE:
Chromosomal makeup: YY
Age: 29
Height: 176cms (5'5")
Weight: I have no idea. About average for my height, not skinny just normal.
Hair for this week: long black. Dyed black but hey, I'm a hairdresser! If I can't, who can?
Natural hair colour: light brown, almost blonde
Eyes: blue
Tattoos/Piercings/Scars/Other: I have an Amethyst navel ring and a conch ring. No - it's not what you think, it's a 10 gauge ring thru the inside
shell of my left ear, the part that looks a little like a conch shell. Had the nose ring taken mout because of a bad metal reaction.
Preferred clothing: Long skirts, ankle length. Almost never wear anything short. Love corsets. Also have some nice custom stuff made here in NYC from
Arkivestry(.com)
Your favourite "non-Goth" clothes: Belly dance costumes! I live to dance.
The daggiest thing I ever wore was: Whatever I clean the house in..
LIFESTYLE:
Occupation: Hairdresser by trade, Writer and Assistant to the Editor for Morbid. Belly dancer and tarot reader.
When I was ten I wanted to be: A vet. Until I saw the gloves.
Number of acg'ers with whom you've been "intimate" (snog & upwards): HEY! I just got here..LOL
Availability status: Umm, for what??? The above???
Sexual preference: Men but I have been known to cross the fence.
Religion: "wicca-ish." Me too. More Earth magick for me, less structure.
Pets: Luna, a 9 yr old Calico cat whom I have to give away before the move. sniff
Your worst habit: Worlds Longest Answering Machine Messages and leaving something of mine where ever I go. I have a black belt in that!
Perky/mopey/neither: Both in a lovely morbid balance.
I would describe my dancing style as: Ethereal tree trimming, like I'm working on a huge invisible Bonsai. and as a belly dancer, lots of hip work.
Most of your money gets spent on: The last five years? Legal fees.
Dietary classification: A diet is a self denial and I hate denial. I am however lactose intolerant so that rules out dairy.
Liver: bruised but not broken.
Hobbies: Belly dance, cooking, baking, knitting.a very domestic Goth really.
FAVOURITES:
Band: Hard to say. Jarboe, The Machine in the Garden, Unto Ashes, St. Eve, Claire Voyant.
Love song: Anniversary - Voltaire
Dance-like-a-maniac song: Anything Turkish or Arabic, otherwise the 80's still sing in my blackened heart. Jarboe even though it's not really dancing music.
Pub: CBGB's on Monday, called 'Alchemy'. Or the Raven on a Friday night. Both NYC.
Club: Mother in New York closed. After that there has been a big crack down on "alternative" clubs, getting busted for Cabaret license violations (too
much dancing - can you believe that!!!) So NYC has been lame. I would have to say the Contempt party at the Frying pan, a boat in the NYC marina. Cool
party in a rusted out old boat actually on water!
Book/genre/author/poet: Ummm, Scott Cunningham, Stephen King before he sold out. I actually prefer independent dark fiction on the web. Check out
http://www.gothic.net/chiaroscuro/
TV show: Law and Order, Antiques Home Road show, Mystery Science Theater 3000.
Actor/actress: I have to admit - I don't really care. Let's say Kevin Spacey.
Movie: "The Dark Crystal, Immortal Beloved and pretty much anything by Tim Burton" (me too)As well as Hitchcock's The 39 Steps, and
Witness for the Prosecution. Also the Changeling. Scared the shit outa me when I was 8.
Artist/artwork: I have a weak spot for Kimberly Traub. She does a lot of the illustrations for Morbid Outlook. Also Chad Savage and the evil clown
thing.oh and Bottacelli..
Animal: Cats. Big or small. It's all about Cats!
Food: Good! I love all food, except cilantro. And dairy - no wait, dairy hates me..
Drink: Sure! Scotch and coke or Khalua and Milk. But there is no lactaid (to help digest dairy) in Aus so I will have to give that up.
Texture: velvet and satin
Place to go: BACK TO AUS!!!!!
Way to go: whatever it is, as long as it's quick.
MISCELLANY:
What got you into this whole "goth" thing anyhow?: In New York really. I was always out of step with the norm but I didn't "come out" as a Goth until I hit New York Downtown and walked into a Goth
Club. I was doing the hair for a Goth Fashion show. It was like OH MY GODDESS! It's 1984 in here! I just interviewed Voltaire and he said the same
thing. It was 1996. I felt like I belonged.awwww!
What do you wear to bed? A big sloppy T shirt and trackies. Sometimes Black silk PJ's but who am I trying to impress?
Do you decapitate Jelly Babies and Teddy Bear biscuits before progressing to other body parts? I sometimes start at the crotch. Just to be a bitch.
If we made "ACG - The Movie" - who would play you? That goth girl from Blair Witch 2. I auditioned for that twice and it came down to me and her - true story! It's no coincidence she looks JUST LIKE ME. Only younger. Sigh.
If one thing could suddenly appear on your desk / fall in your lap, what would you like it to be? Money. I wasted thousands trying to Immigrate to the USA and all for
nothing.
What is your greatest fear? "dying lonely." I second that emotion.
Your last five holidays were where? Las Vegas, Los Angelus, San Francisco, The Catskill Mountains in upstate New York and technically, New York.
Which cartoon character are you? Oh geez louise, I have no idea.
If someone's hitting on you - what's guaranteed to work? Someone genuine and not lying about their single status. And flattery.
Can you keep a secret? Ahh...sure..
Who or what is your least favourite thing in the world? Country and Western music. Ugh.
What gives you a warm fuzzy feeling inside? Being surrounded by real friends and people who care. And vegemite. I miss vegemite!
Anything else you want to say that you don't feel is covered above: That's not enough? I guess I really like people, as long as they are as
morbid as I am. Children are amazing! (but I can never eat a whole one)
