Trip diaryOkay - So I've been kinda slack - but hey - I'm on holiday, and have better things to do then to play with a computer :) Its the morning of the 29th, and I'm sittingin the car waiting for mikey to finish checking out of the motel in eden. We are off to lakes entrance today! Big change in itinery plans is that we have decided to stay another nite in lakes entrance.. Also I've decided I don't like automatic windows as it means if I want to wind down the window I have to wait til the car engine starts. Mike's just smiled at me and said 'guess what, we're in eden, and we are about not to be, as we drive off and leave :) Left Sydney! Hooray! to the excitingnest bit. Got side tracked very early on, leaving the prices highway and travelling down some back roads through the Royal National Park, which was beautiful and wonderful and very windy. This has set the tone for scenery so far - its been wonderful scenery the whole trip down the coast. For this first day we largely stayed off the highway taking lots of back roads and tourist drives along the coast, so while we didn't make too good a time, we did see lots of wonderful things, there's a lot of really crap photo's taken buy me out of moving car windows. Oh - also brought a tiggrr in a servo leaving sydney. Arrived at Moruya. Rather nice hotel - was above a pub. Good room, hideos carpet, big spa - purrrrrr. Had dinner in a chinese resturant which was real wwly really yummy, in true country town form we had to ask for chopsticks and chinese tea - rather than get them automatically. But the food was great. Had discussins about acceptable chinese etiquette and also why most small country towns tend to have at least one chinese resturant - despite the complete lack of any other sort of 'ethnic food' except maybe italian. Enjoyed spa :) 28thMotel provided breakfast - not that exciting and still not convinced it was worth getting up early for. We do motels tend to only serve breakfast between 7.30am and 8.30am - surely being opn holiday sleep in's should be called for. Then went to Brulee beach which was beautiful, did a bit of paddleing and climbing on rocks - was dying to put on wetsuit and go swimming, but lack of anywhere to wash off afterwards stopped me. Back to Moruya and went to a hippy shop - where I finally brought me a sarong, and also picked up a cheap green and black celtic knotwork print sheet. Surprise purchase of the day, a wetsuit each and a rashi for michael - and mine is even nice colours - I'm one step closer to my goal of being a surfie chick. drove to eden stopping at bega. Went to the bega cheese factory and tasted some cheese and saw a mutant cow and other stuff and thought of Jenny. Got all excited about prospect of swimming in wetsuits and decided to hurry on to eden, book in a go find a beach - and so we did - bounce bounce up and down in waves. I have a vague suspicion that my wetsuit could prolly use an extra layer of insulation for me, oh well, bit late now...maybe i should buy a rashi as well. Still fun Then went to a rather nice (and expensive resturant - specialised in sea food) Had nothing vegetarian - but I had some chargrilled chicken with beans and avacado salad that was pretty good, and mikey had some meat and seafood thing called reef and beef which is a flavour of kit-e-kat cat food. :) Nice house white. There was a wharf party thing on, wandered around and looked, a few carnival games and that sort o thing - a laser show and fireworks was advertised - but we succumbed to the cold and went home. 29thMIke woke up at 6am to watch a movie on cable - while I admire that dedication - I stayed asleep :)
Hooray - just hit the Victoria border, and thats the first time I've crossed the states borders not over the murray river. roadkill count - 33 |
